Hartford residents can breathe a sigh of relief following an announcement at Thursday’s Lyon County commission meeting that their levee has received provisional accreditation.
County Clerk Karen Hartenbower said this morning that Hartford has received notification from the Federal Emergency Management Association that the levee is a provisionally accredited levee. The Corps of Engineer now has until June 18, 2009, to certify the levee. Without this certification, some residents of Hartford would be required to buy for flood insurance, which can be costly.
Thursday’s commission meeting also centered around discussion of the 2008 budget. Hartenbower said commissioners decided to allow department heads to put in a 2 percent raise for employees. Department heads have been asked to detail all capitol expenditures and the funds will be taken out of the multi-year account.
Department heads also are to prioritize their budgets and look at savings and alternative ways to fund the budget. Budget sheets will go to department heads on Monday and they will have two weeks to get those back to County Controller, Dan Slater.
Also during Thursday’s commission meeting, commissioners approved the plans and contract documents for improvements on Road U and Road 200. Bids will be let at 10 a.m. July 3 in the commission chambers.
