The Flint Hills Regional Quilt Show is being held Saturday and Sunday at the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
Arts council wants members
Membership contributions are being taken for the Emporia Arts Council 2007-2008 season. Those who sign up early will receive one free ticket of his/her choice of performance. Contributions need to be paid in full by June 30, 2007. For more informaton, call 343-6473.
The season opens Oct. 11 with the Jupiter String Quartet and continues Feb. 5 with Gaelic Storm, March 28 with “Great Jazz Divas” and April 24 with The Tweaksters. The Missoula Children’s Theatre production will be “The Little Mermaid” on April 5 and 6, 2008.
Story time
The Emporia Public Library Summer Storytimes for Pat-A-Cake Club and Mother Goose Time Storytime theme for the week of June 11th is “I Spy A,B, C.” Pat-A-Cake Club is held at 9:15 a.m. on Monday and Thursday mornings for infants to 18 months. Mother Goose Time is held at 9:45 a.m. on Monday and Thursday mornings for toddlers up to 36 months. Also, “Dan Dan the Magic Man” will perform his magic show at the library starting 3 p.m. Thursday. There is no charge.
Finally, The Emporia Public Library Summer Preschool and School Age Storytime theme for the week of June 11th is “Secret Codes.” Preschool Storytime is Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m., and on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. for 2-5 year olds. School Age Storytime is Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. for 5 -11 year olds.

The First Annual Frontier Western Celebration is being held in El Dorado today, Saturday and Sunday. The Clydesdale horses will be present at most events, which include bull riding, outdoor dance, demonstations, music and food. Kansas Chautauqua opens June 14-17 in Medicine Lodge with a Youth Chautauqua Camp being held Monday through Friday at Medicine Lodge. Famous Kansans portrayed will be Dr. John Brinkley, Langston Hughes, Carry Nation and William Allen White. The other site will be Baldwin City from June 21-24. Sneak-peek at
symphony showhouse
The Wichita Symphony Showhouse XV at 204 N. Roosevelt will be open to the public for a “Sneak a Peek” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16. Tickets are $5 each and will be available at the door. According to the news release, this is the only chance for visitors to see the house in its “before” condition, before being painted, patched and plastered.
The finished Symphony Showhouse will be open from Sept. 16 until Oct. 7. Advance tickets will be available at area outlets for $10. Tickets at the door will be $12.
This event is a project of the Women’s Association of the Wichita Symphony, with all funds used to support the orchestra.
