A graduate of Emporia High School is vying for the title of Miss Kansas 2007 at Pratt Community College in Pratt.
Miss Capital City, Erica Mahan of Neosho Rapids, is one of 21 contestants shooting for the crown. Preliminary competitions begin today and go through Thursday. Mahan is competing on the platform “It’s SADD that People Drink and Drive.” Her talent is vocal performance.
This isn’t Mahan’s first competition. According to the Miss Teen Kansas Website, she was Miss Teen Kansas 2006. Her scholastic honors included honor roll, chorale, symphonic band, letters in band and track and a top rating with flute solo and flute ensemble.
Mahan has been in several leadership roles, including cheerleader, flag captain and mentor to younger candy stripers. She taught girls flag routines and cheers in flag and cheerleading clinics.
Mahan is a student at Allen County Community College. She plans to become an occupational therapist.
