A fire at 528 Market St. sent one youth to the hospital with possible injuries Wednesday afternoon.
The Emporia Fire Department was called out to the fire at 2:50 p.m., said Fire Chief Jack Taylor. At 3:30 p.m., firefighters were venting the home, putting out hot spots and knocking charred wood out of a bedroom window. High winds were blowing ash and smoke down the street, which was blocked off to traffic.
“It appears the fire started in the bedroom,” Taylor said, adding that that was preliminary information.
Taylor said there was smoke and heat damage through the home but it was too early to tell exactly how much damage.
One youth was taken to the hospital with possible smoke inhalation and burns. The youth’s name and age were not available on the scene.
