The Emporia Energy meet at the mound for a cheer before the start of their first inning out in the field.

The Emporia Energy U-18 team finished second in its own Diamond Classic tournament, posting a 3-1 record over the weekend.

The Energy clinched the runner-up showing with a 4-2 victory over the Lady Wildcats on Sunday.

Emporia took the lead in the fourth, as Amber Jones doubled, Lenae Wells reached on an error and Chelsea Goins singled to load the bases. Andrea Jones followed with an RBI single, and McKenzie Cinelli provided a two-run double to make it 3-1.

The support would be enough for Amber Jones, who picked up the win after allowing just two runs on three hits.

Amy McAfee had two hits, and every Energy player had a hit in the game.

On Saturday, Emporia defeated Osage City, 9-4.

McAfee won her third game of the season, and her teammates helped her by rallying after trailing 3-2 early.

The Energy scored two in the second and one in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead, then exploded for four in the fifth to put it away.

Brendy Muninger singled, then McAfee, Elyse Hecht and Amber Jones reached on two walks and an error.

Singles from Javyn Carl and Wells finished the scoring.

In its first game Saturday, Emporia defeated the Topeka Queens, 4-1. McAfee was the winning pitcher, allowing just three hits.

The Energy trailed 1-0 heading into the sixth, but singles from Carl and Wells were followed by a walk to Cinelli to load the bases.

Muninger and McAfee knocked consecutive two-run doubles to give Emporia its 4-1 lead.

Muninger went 3-for-4 with two doubles, while McAfee, Hecht, Carl and Wells all had three hits.

Emporia had its only loss of the tournament in the second game — a 9-1 setback to the Rockin Jays.

The Energy scratched across its only run with singles from Andrea McAfee and Cinelli and a double from Muninger.

The Rockin Jays — who later won the tournament — scored four in the first to grab the early advantage.

The U-18 Energy (4-3) will play host to another tournament this upcoming weekend in Emporia.

It would have been nice for the Gazette to come and take pictures of the other Energy teams. We do have 4 Energy teams. U-10, U-12, U-16 and U-18. But I guess that would be to much for our home town newspaper.

Congrats to the U-18 you worked really hard.
