Chase County sites named in competition

Two Chase County sites are finalists for the 8 Wonders of Kansas sponsored by the Kansas Sampler Foundation.

The Kansas Sampler Foundation announced that the Chase County Courthouse in Cottonwood Falls and the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Chase County are among 24 finalists that have the potential to be named one of the 8 Wonders in Kansas following a public vote.

At the end of March, the Kansas Sampler Foundation launched a project to find the 8 Wonders of Kansas.

“Though this was one number off the original Seven Wonders of the World, the number eight represented the eight rural culture elements established by the Foundation: architecture, art, commerce, cuisine, customs, geography, history and people,” a press release from the Kansas Sampler Foundation stated.

Foundation director Marci Penner said the purpose of the project is to encourage people to get to know their state.

“We hope the fun of this project will inspire them to travel to all 24 sites this summer and fall before they vote,” Penner said. “They’ll find lots of other great stops along the way, too!”

The public can learn more about each site at 8wonders.org. Public voting will be open until Dec. 31. On Jan. 29, 2008, Kansas Day, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will announce the 8 Wonders of Kansas.

Online voting is encouraged but brochures and ballots can be obtained at the indoor finalists sites, printed from 8wonders.org or by calling (620) 585-2374.

Oh Dave. Dave, Dave, Dave, Dave, Dave. Poor Dave. I'm sorry you're so grumpy. Maybe you should go to the tallgrass prairie and meditate. Take some bug spray.

(Isn't interesting how someone can find so much negative in such a positive news article?)

Anyway...

I think this is terrific news! Kansas tourism has so much to offer, and this is just another great way of showcasing what makes the state great. Bravo!

Do you see anywhere that Lyon County is any good at any thing?
