Emporia Schools

Breakfast and lunch will be served from May 29 to Aug. 3 at Riverside, Timmerman, Walnut, Lowther North, Emporia Middle School and Emporia High School. Breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. at the middle and high schools, and at 8:30 at the other four sites. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at all sites.

The meals are free to all children 18 years old and younger. Parents may eat with their children for a minimal charge. All meals must be eaten at the school site. Adult meal prices are $1.50 for breakfast and $3 for lunch.

BREAKFAST

Monday: cereal bar.

Tuesday: blueberry scone.

Wednesday: breakfast burrito.

Thursday: little piggy.

Friday: mini pancakes.

Breakfast is served with juice and milk.

LUNCH

Monday: cheeseburger on a bun, seasoned fries, broccoli florets, mandarin oranges.

Tuesday: double stuff pizza, tossed salad, melon wedge, graham cookie.

Wednesday: turkey fritter, hot roll, mashed potatoes, corn, peaches.

Thursday: crispito, nacho chips, tossed salad, mozzarella cheese stick, strawberries.

Friday: ham and cheese sandwich, tater tots, baby carrots, pineapple.

Lunch is served with milk.

Friendship Meals

EMPORIA

Friendship meals are served at noon at the Emporia Senior Center, 603 E. 12th Ave.

Reservations should be made one day in advance by calling the Senior Center, 343-3160, between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. For home-delivered meals, call 340-8001.

Monday: hamburger on a bun, sliced tomato, pea salad, banana.

Tuesday: barbecue beef, bun, macaroni salad, pickled beets, strawberries and bananas.

Wednesday: chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas, wheat roll, peanut butter pie.

Thursday: swiss steak, scalloped potatoes, coleslaw, bread, gelatin with fruit.

Friday: scalloped chicken with broccoli, cucumber-onion salad, wheat bread, apricots.

NORTH LYON COUNTY

Friendship meals are served at noon at: The Americus Senior Center, 516 Locust St., (620) 443-5352 and the North Lyon County Senior Center at Allen, (620) 528-3414.

Reading residents who want meals can call the North Lyon County Senior Center.

Reservations should be made by phone one day in advance.

Monday: sweet and sour chicken, rice, lettuce salad, bread.

Tuesday: beef biscuit roll, oven-browned potatoes, broccoli-cauliflower salad, bread, pears.

Wednesday: turkey slice, bread dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, strawberries with topping.

Thursday: barbecue chicken, potatoes, mixed vegetables, rolls, watermelon.

Friday: scalloped potatoes with hamburger, coleslaw, carrots, bread, peaches

This is a comment on voting for what should be done with our tax money: I think the city should work on improving services and being cost effective with what money they have to work with. Cutting taxes crimps the city style. We are looking to better the city of Emporia and taxes do not need to be cut. Can you tell what I voted? I am living in Olpe but I would have voted the same if I were still there. CP
