Chase County

The Chase County board of commissioners approved and signed a declaration of local disaster declaration following recent flooding in Chase County. The Chase County Leader-News reported on May 24 that the state hasn’t declared Chase County a local disaster. Preparedness Director Scott Wiltse told the board a declaration was in the works.

Burlington

The Burlington USD 244 Board of Education approved a resolution at its May 14 meeting that will allow the Burlington Recreation Commission to raise its maximum mill levy from 1.25 mills to 1.5 mills.

The Coffey County Republican reported on May 25 the recreation commission requested the board approve the mill levy increase at its April meeting, but it was tabled so questions could be answered. The school board has the authority to set the recreation commission’s mill levy.

Cottonwood Falls

The Cottonwood Valley Bank opened a new full-service branch in Cottonwood Falls on Monday. The Chase County Leader-News reported on Thursday that bank president Barry Linnens said a grand opening will be held in the near future. The bank is a full-service branch of the Cedar Point Cottonwood Valley Bank. The Cedar Point bank now has three full service locations: Strong City, Florence and Cottonwood Falls.
