Lyon County commissioners will hear first-hand Wednesday about the more than $500,000 dental hub grant to be received by the Flint Hills Community Health Center.
Last week, Lougene Marsh, the health center’s executive director, announced the $576,574 grant, which will be discussed at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the commission chambers of the Lyon County Courthouse.
The grant will help expand oral health services by using existing health clinics, many of which already have dental clinics. Marsh said the center’s dental clinic now serves only Lyon, Chase, Greenwood and Osage Counties because the clinic does not have the space or the resources to see extra patients. The grant comes from funds authorized by the Kansas Legislature and public and private organizations.
Before the grant presentation, commissioners will hear from Chip Woods, county engineer, at 9 a.m. He will initiate a discussion about changing the speed limit on sections of Road U, Road 200 and Road S near the peaking power plant being built by Westar Energy.
Woods also will bring other items to the table, including bids for structural steel for county projects and plans for county bridge replacement projects.
Other items on Wednesday’s agenda:
F 9:45 a.m. — John Vopat of S&S Oil and Propane will discuss a fence between properties on West Highway 50.
F 10:15 a.m. — Dora Hartig, Lyon County treasurer, will address the purchase of a currency scanner from the multiyear capital outlay fund.
