Tuesday

• Head over to the Lyon County Free Fair for a day full of activities. At 9 a.m. is the dairy goat show; 10:30 a.m. bucket calf show; 2:30 p.m. 4-H animal exhibits will be released (except those in the livestock sale and Round Robin); 6 p.m. Round Robin; 8 p.m. Buck, Rumble & Roll.

Wednesday

• Lots more offerings at the Lyon County Free Fair — the livestock sale will be at 6 p.m. at the show arena, and from 6 to 10 p.m. enjoy wristband night at the carnival. Wristbands are $18 each.

• Study hard! Lyon County commissioners will meet for their weekly study session starting at 8 a.m. in the Commission Chambers in the Lyon County Courthouse. At 10 a.m., Lougene Marsh, executive director of Flint Hills Community Health Center, will discuss funds for remodeling the clinic.

• Fresh produce! Head to the Farmer’s Market for fresh produce in the Seventh Avenue and Merchant Street parking lot. The market opens for sales at 5 p.m.

• Head to the library! There will be a “Kansas Troubles” book discussion at 7 p.m. at the Emporia Public Library. The book is by Earlene Fowler.

• It’s time for the Emporia City Commission to return to Kenyon Hall — but not for a demolition permit this time. At the afternoon meeting, commissioners will discuss a resolution of support for senior housing tax credits, to be used for the old College of Emporia building. The meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. at the city commission chambers, 518 Mechanic St.

Thursday

• Cowboy and Cowgirl Up! Head to the fair for the 4-H rodeo, which starts at 6 p.m.

• Take action! Lyon County commissioners resume their weekly meeting, this time in action session starting at 8 a.m. in the Commission chambers in the Lyon County Courthouse.

Friday

• More action at the fair! The truck and tractor pull will be at 7 p.m. at the Grandstands. Come and enjoy the last couple of nights at the fair!

Saturday

• Crashin’ and smashin’! The Lyon County Free Fair wraps up with a Demolition Derby at 6 p.m. It’s also the last night for the carnival.

• Try it, You’ll Like It! The Amend Girl Scout Center invites all girls in grades K-3 during the 2006-07 school year to hang out with their friends while they make healthy snacks! Girls will earn the “Eat Right, Stay Healthy,” “Plants” and “Make It, Eat It” Try-Its. For more information or a registration form, please visit the Web site at www.gsflinthills.org.

• More farmers market! The Farmer’s Market, in the Seventh Avenue and Merchant Street parking lot opens at 8 a.m. and promises fresh produce to suit anyone’s fancy.

• Birthday party! Americus will hold its 150th Birthday Luncheon at 12 p.m. at USD 251 Meeting Room in Americus.

• Play it safe! Learn about back to school safety at the Flinthills Mall. All ages are welcome.
