Greenwood County

A Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department new patrol car, a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, was stolen and wrecked sometime late Sunday or early Monday.

The Eureka Herald reported the car was left for its usual 3,000 mile maintenance work and was in the locked county yard/storage area. Around 10 p.m. Sunday, officers saw the vehicle in the county yard. At 5 a.m. Monday, the gate to the county yard had been damaged and the vehicle stolen.

It later was found in the east ditch on K-99. It appeared to have been driven off the highway in that area and the vehicle received extensive damage.

Chase County

The Chase County Leader-News reported the Chase County Unified School District No. 284 will hold enrollment for the 2007-08 school year on Thursday and Friday. The all-school enrollment held at Chase County High School in the Commons area will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday.

Burlington

No new information regarding the death of LeRoy resident Richard Freeman has been released by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation or the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office.

The Coffey County Republican reported the 63-year-old man’s body was found on July 9 in a mobile home in LeRoy.

According to the Coffey County Sheriff Randy Rogers, the KBI is the lead investigator and the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with the KBI.

Marion County

Participants from around Marion County braved the heat recently as relay teams walked for 12 hours at Tabor College track in Hillsboro during the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Marion County.

The Marion County Record reported nearly $50,000 in contributions were collected.
