The Emporia Track Club’s Asher Delmott finished 10th out of 22 runners in the finals of the young men’s 2,000-meter steeplechase at the USATF Junior Olympic Nationals on Tuesday in Walnut, Calif.
Delmott finished in a time of 6 minutes, 32.35 seconds, which put him just 3 seconds ahead of the 11th-place finisher to earn the top-10 placing. John Coyle, an unattached competitor, won the race in a time of 6:12.89.
Delmott next is scheduled to compete in his second event of the Junior Nationals — the 5,000-meter run — at 8 a.m. Thursday.
Fellow ETC member Jacob Davies also will compete Thursday, running in the preliminaries of the 800-meter run. Brandon Childs will compete in the high jump on Saturday.
