Practice for the 34th Kansas Shrine Bowl All-Star football game began Friday, with the East squad opening camp at Welch Stadium in Emporia.

Five area players have been selected to play in the 2007 edition of the football showcase: Dillon Cox of Emporia, Matt Coursen of Waverly, Jake Miller of Olpe and Andrew Wiederholt of Hartford were named to the East squad, while Jordan Stout of Madison was named to the West team.

Both squads will travel to Kansas City International Airport today for a flight to St. Louis to visit the Shriners Hospital for Children. Practices then resume on Sunday and continue through the week in preparation for next Saturday’s game.
