A-15s rally in late innings to take
11-8 victory
The Emporia Legion A-15s bounced back from a first-round loss to claim an 11-8 victory over Lawrence Friday at the Zone Tournament in Lawrence.
The crucial stretch for the A-15s came in the fifth inning, when Emporia turned a 7-1 deficit into a 10-7 lead with a nine-run outburst.
Emporia will continue play in the consolation bracket today, and will face the winner between Olathe East and Junction City.
Hartford football camp to be held next week
The Hartford Jaguar Football Camp with new coach Dave Waslyk will be held next week from July 23-27. Coaches Patrick Gardner and Chuck Ewy also will help coordinate the camp.
There will be two sessions, with the first for athletes in 7th-8th grade and the second for athletes in 9th-12th grades. Session One will go from 1:30-4:30 p.m., and Session Two will go from 5:30-9:30 p.m.
Cost is $20 and includes instruction and T-shirt.

ESU volleyball team takes academic honor
The Emporia State volleyball program has earned the Gameplan/AVCA Academic Award for the fifth straight year.
The honor, which started in the 1992-93 season, recognizes teams that maintain at least a 3.30 team grade-point average.
ESU was one of 30 Division-II teams that received the accolade from the AVCA. Central Missouri was the only other MIAA squad to make the list.
The Hornets, who posted a 3.38 combined GPA last season, have attained the academic honor every year since 2002-03. That streak is the longest among MIAA schools.
