Emporia State University President Michael Lane has been named to a statewide committee on math and science education.
Lane is one of 14 members appointed to the Legislative Math and Science Education Advisory Committee, which will try to develop a plan for education in the state that includes a long-term commitment for math, science and education. Its findings will be given to the Legislature for its 2008 session.
The appointment was announced Thursday by Kansas Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley, D-Topeka. Hensley cited Lane’s expertise in “the fine art of accounting and business” as one reason for his appointment.
“In this position, he will have an opportunity to use his expertise to provide students with the skills they need to meet today’s job market,” Hensley said in a press release.
