George, Hadley will head student govt.

Thursday, July 19, 2007

On March 14, Courtney George, junior Political Science and Public Affairs major, and Elissa Hadley, junior Secondary Education English major, were elected Associated Student Government President and Vice President, respectively, at Emporia State University for the 2007-2008 school year.

“Courtney and I make an excellent team because we communicate with each other. We keep each other informed and work together to reach common goals. Courtney and I also realize the differences in our positions and work well in our specific roles,” Hadley said. “Courtney focuses on the external factors—working with faculty, administration, Board of Regents and the community. While I focus on the students, directing the senators, staff and working closely with the students we strive to represent.”

George and Hadley have three platform goals that they hope to achieve while in office. They want to repair the communication lines, revive student awareness and replenish student involvement.

In order to repair communication lines, the duo hopes to “increase communication internally” among ASG members. To increase student awareness, the ladies want to let all ESU students know that ASG is there to serve them—the students. Under replenishing student involvement, they hope to help engage students more and get them involved in a variety of different student organizations.

“With over 140 [Recognized Student Organizations] at ESU, surely students can find at least one organization that they are passionate about!” George said.

Both George and Hadley are looking forward to beginning the fall semester and representing the students of ESU in several different ways.

“I’m very excited to serve the student body and be their representation to so many different outside constituencies,” George said. “I look forward to sharing out students’ stories and being the ‘voice of the students’ this next year.”

Hadley agreed that she was excited to serve the students but she is also motivated to build for the future of Emporia State University and its students.
