Blood drive Monday
The Chase County “Celebration of Life” blood drive in honor of Greensburg tornado and Kansas disaster victims will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Chase County Middle School in Strong City. To schedule an appointment, call (800) GIVE-LIFE. Everyone who comes in to donate will receive a free Celebraton of Life T-shirt. Also, Celebration of Life cake will be served in the canteen. Blood donors can also show their support by signing Red Cross banners at the blood drive. Blood donors across Kansas during July will be part of this celebration with the banners to be displayed during the next Greensburg blood drive. For more information, see www.bloodgiveslife.org.
Remembering when
Flint Hills Girl Scout Camp Double E has been reserved for the entire weekend, beginning Friday night and continuing through Sunday, for adult Girl Scouts “who remember when,” according to the news release. At 4 p.m. Saturday will be the big gathering with hot dogs, s’mores, campfire and Girl Scout songs. Girl Scout alumnae are encouraged to bring “best buddies” from their camping days, share the tales that shaped generations, pitch tents, bring campers, use council tents or just join in for hot dogs and s’mores. Participants are to bring flashlights and lawn chairs. To make reservations, call 342-4532.
Main Street meeting
Emporia Main Street will have an informational meeting for members at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the basement meeting room of Commerce Bank, 701 Merchant St.
Kayla Oney of Emporia Main Street said a presenter is coming from Boston to explain a loyalty card program, which is a way for customers to give back to community charities.
“Frequent shoppers get to basically give back to a charity when they shop certain places,” Oney said.
Shhh... keep it a secret
A surprise Open House will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion for Richard Weaver, who will celebrate his 80th birthday. No gifts are requested.
Flint Hills Nature Trail
The grand opening of the Hike ‘N Bike Flint Hills Nature Trail has been rescheduled for Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Allen Trailhead. Included in the event will be giveaways from High Gear Cyclery, members of the ESU Multi-Sport Club and bicycle safety from Newman Regional Health.
