Corporate Challenge deadline is Friday

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Time is running out to register for the Corporate Challenge, Emporia’s “corporate olympics.”

Teams have until Friday to sign up. The entry fee is $125. Each company and organization may enter two teams of 15 people each, but everyone on the roster must be an employee. Small companies may also have spouses on the team by permission of the Emporia Recreation Commission.

“I have five confirmed teams, but we’re getting phone calls every five minutes,” said Barb Rourk of the recreation commission. “So I’m thinking they’re waiting to the last minute to get the right people in the right events.”

Teams may enter in a “fun” or “competitive” division. All participants get T-shirts.

Each team member will sign up for at least two events. This year’s events are:

• Aug. 12 — Bowling at Flint Hills Lanes.

• Aug. 13 — Canoe race at Hopkins Lake.

• Aug. 14 — Putt-putt golf at the Emporia Family Fun Center.

• Aug. 15 — Adventure race at Peter Pan Park.

• Aug. 16 — Basketball shoot-out at the Lee Beran Recreation Center.

• Aug. 17 — Washers at the Lyon County Fairground.

• Aug. 20 — Kickball at the Trusler Sports Complex, Whittier Park and the South Avenue ball diamonds.

• Aug. 21 — Bocce at the Optimist ball fields.

• Aug. 22 — Darts at the Sidetrack Saloon and disc golf at Jones Park.

• Aug. 23 — Count Kubb at Peter Pan Park and bolo at Peter Pan Park.

• Aug. 24 — Challenge picnic and awards presentation.
