Veterans’ names needed

The Americus Sesquicentennial Book Committee wants to honor Americus-area veterans by listing their names in the 2007 Sesquicentennial Book.

Those who live in the Americus area now or lived in the Americus area when enlisting can call 342-5707 or Jan Huston, (620) 443-5214, to give permission for using his or her name and information.

Municipal band concert

The Emporia Municipal Band will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday in Fremont Park, Fourth Avenue and Union Street. This week’s theme is “All That Jazz!”

The program is:

• “Block M” concert march by Jerry H. Bilik.

• “The ‘Little’ Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin.

• “Blue Goose Rag,” by Raymond Birch, arranged by Timothy Broege.

• “Stardust,” by Hoagy Carmichael, arranged by Paul Yoder.

• Hymn: “Just a Closer Walk With Thee” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

• Sing-along: “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.”

• Children’s march: “St. Louis Blues March,” by W.C. Handy, as played by Tex Beneke.

• “A Charlie Brown Celebration,” arranged by Johnnie Vinson.

• “Tribute to Count Basie,” arranged by John Moss.

• “Original Dixieland Concerto,” by John Warrington.

• Soundtrack highlights from “Hello, Dolly,” arranged by Philip J. Lang.

NAMI picnic rescheduled

The Emporia support group of the National Alliance on Mental Illness has rescheduled its picnic, which will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Bluestem Room at the Best Western Hospitality House Motel, 3021 W. Highway 50.

Table service, main dish and beverages are provided. Participants are to bring a side dish or dessert.

Gospel concert tonight

The 62nd Osage County Fair at Osage City ends today with “Concert at the Fair” and a wrestling match.

The concert is at 7 p.m. at the Osage County fairgrounds and the wrestling match at 8 p.m. Both events is free of charge.

The concert will feature family gospel music by the “Chosen Few” of Billings, Mo.; southern gospel recording artist Jim Gardner of Osage City and a southern gospel quartet, “Sound Advice Quartet” of Topeka.

Bleacher seating is available, along with concessions. People also may bring lawn chairs.

At 8 p.m., the professional wrestling exhibition will be at the outdoor basketball court or the skating rink, depending on the weather.

FEMA extends dates

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended the dates of its recent disaster declaration, which was from flood damage occurring from May 4 to 18.

The end date now includes any flood damage occurring to May 31.

Rick Frevert, of Lyon County Emergency Management, said anyone with flood damage in Lyon County that occurred after May 4 and before June 1 has until Aug. 4 to file a claim.

Claims can be filed by calling (800) 621-FEMA or online at www.fema.gov. This amendment also includes Chase County, Osage County and Wabaunsee County.
