Party will raise money for cancer relay

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

A “Princess Power Scrapbook Crop” party is planned in the name of 4-year-old Reese Naylor to raise money for the Emporia Relay for Life. All registration fees from the event will be donated to the Relay in honor of Reese, daughter of former Emporians Ryan and Jennifer Russell Naylor.

Reese recently was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia, according to information from one of the event hosts, Julie Cooper. Angie Landwehr is co-host.

The 12-hour scrapbook party will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Aug. 4, in the First Baptist Church, which has donated use of its building at 807 Constitution St. for the event. Walburn’s Athletic Club will donate food and snacks, Cooper said, and Scrappy Girls is a corporate sponsor. Door prizes and free items will be given.

Limited space is available, Cooper said. Registration and payment of $20 must be made in advance and can be done by e-mailing scrappy_girl1970@yahoo.com or Julie Cooper at jewely@cableone.net, or by mailing registration and payment to Julie Cooper, 2006 Lincoln St., Emporia KS 66801. Checks should be made payable to the American Cancer Society.

The Emporia Relay for Life will be Sept. 7 at Emporia High School.

THANK YOU to the Emporia Gazette for letting the public know about our event. We hope to have a full house and for it to be a FUN event! Our ultimate goal is to raise an awareness about Cancer Research and to honor those who are fighting the fight, but also while remembering those who are no longer with us due to cancer.
