It’s not too early to be thinking about the Flint Hills Beef Fest, especially if you want to be in the Businessmen’s Mugging contest.
There are 10 slots for mugging teams. Each team consists of four people who do not work with cattle on a regular basis. The cost is $15 per team. Entries are due by Aug. 1. During the muggings, teams are to chase a steer around the arena and attempt to throw it to the ground. The team with the best time wins.
Muggings will take place during the ranch rodeo on Aug. 17. Prizes will be awarded to the team with the best time.
“The only team that is guaranteed a spot for the next year is the winning team,” said Shelly Wiggins, of the Flint Hills Beef Fest.
Registrations should be called in at (620) 344-3849. The first nine teams that call in will be entered. When calling, leave date, time, phone number and address of a team member that can be contacted.
This year’s Beef Fest is scheduled for Aug. 17-19. There will be a supper in the Anderson Building before the Ranch Rodeo. Mugging team members will receive a pass for the Ranch Feed and the Ranch Rodeo. The feed starts at 6 p.m. and the rodeo at 7 p.m.
