10-year sentence given for sex crime

Saturday, July 14, 2007

A man convicted of sodomizing a 12-year-old child has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison.

Coffey County Attorney Doug Witteman had charged Marvin L. Standley, 48, of Gridley in August 2006, after an investigation conducted by the Coffey County Sheriff’s office, assisted by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, Social and Rehabilitation investigators, and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation forensic laboratory.

Standley was convicted May 5 on one count of aggravated criminal sodomy, a severity level 2 felony against a person. District Judge Phillip M. Fromme sentenced Standley on Thursday. The sentence was the maximum permitted by the Kansas Sentencing Guidelines.

Witteman said in a news release that the crime had occurred in March 2005, when the victim was 12 years old; however, evidence indicated the abuse had begun many years ago.

“We were aware of similar allegations having been made against Standley in the past for events that had occurred in other counties and other states,” Witteman said. “When the current allegation surfaced, immediate steps were taken to place the child in a safe environment.

“Following that step, a methodical and thorough investigation ensued. We knew this was our opportunity to put a stop to this and we had to get it right.”

The child’s allegations were confirmed following the execution of a search warrant at the victim’s home.

“Biological fluid was found in the victim’s bedroom exactly where we expected it to be and the KBI crime lab confirmed that it was semen with an absolute DNA profile match to Standley,” Witteman said. “That took this case beyond the usual realm of ‘the victim said it happened and the perpetrator said it didn’t.’ It is difficult to refute a DNA match of 1 in 170 trillion.”

Witteman attributed the conviction to the work done by Coffey County Sheriff’s investigators.

“Thanks to their efforts, this man has finally been exposed and held accountable for what he has done,” Witteman said.

10 years is not enough for this dirt bag but hopefully he will get what he deserves in prison for what he did to that innocent child.

nowadays these perverts have their own prisons. A safe haven if you will for like minded individuals to talk about and relive the crimes they committed in a safe environment . I think they should go into the normal prison system where they would be aware of what kind of scum that they are.
A "cho-mo" is the lowest form of life on this planet.

I grew up with one in my neighborhood. Their father let the oldest rape and his other sons. One is on the registered list. One went to prison for a killing a kid at a bar back in the early 80"s. The father still sale drugs. Yes 10 years is not long enough. Once a childs innocents is distoryed, it's distoyed forever. They should be put in prison for life. Your social life is never the same when you get older you get panic disorders. No means no.
