Dylan W. Evans of Lebo was featured soloist at a performance Saturday of the North American Welsh Choir in Kansas City, Mo.

Evans, 21, a countertenor, graduated in 2004 from Lebo High School and is a senior student at Kansas State University in Manhattan. He is the son of John R. and Sara Evans of Lebo.

The concert included Welsh and English music sung by choir members from 10 states and Canada.

Cakes and barbecue

Fannie Harrell is one of the members of St. James Missionary Baptist Church who will be selling baked goods Saturday at the Emporia Farmers Market. Her lemon pound cakes have delighted the community for several years and she recently has added chocolate pound cakes with lemon or chocolate icing. This week, she’’ll also have a limited supply of German chocolate cakes.

Other church members will be selling pies, brownies and cookies. Some pies will be available with Splenda instead of sugar. Barbecue brisket will be available as sandwiches or in a combo with chips and a drink.

The market will open at 8 a.m. and run until supplies are exhausted.
