North Lyon County baseballers fare well

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

Cody Swanson and Peyton Heins, both of Americus, played on a 9-year-old Cal Ripken team that took second place in the District 7 tournament on Saturday in Louisburg. The two boys represented North Lyon County on the East Central Kansas All-Star tournament team.

In the 10-year-old division, Donovan Read and Michael Karr, both of Allen, and Aaron Larson of Emporia played on the East Central team that took third place in the District 7 tournament on Saturday.

On Monday, the East Central 14-year-old Babe Ruth team took second place in the District 7 tournament at Wellsville. Alex Larson of Emporia represented North Lyon County on the team.

Other NLC players waiting to compete at the district level are Payton DeLong of Reading and Tanner Boucher of Allen, who are playing on the 13-year-old Babe Ruth team. The East Central team faces Ottawa and Paola this weekend in Paola. Playing on the 13- to 15-year-old Babe Ruth team are Kenneth Bronson, D.J. Bronson, Casey Atchison and Matt Boyce, all of Allen. They face Paola, Ottawa and Spring Hill this weekend in Ottawa. Because East Central hosts the 13- to 15-year-old state tournament in Osage City, the team receives an automatic bid to state.

The East Central teams are made up of players in their respective age divisions from North Lyon County, Lyndon, Osage City, Williamsburg, Melvern, Pomona and Appanoose. They were chosen by the league coaches after the regular season ended in late June.
