Disaster center closing
The Emporia Disaster Recovery Center closes at 6 p.m. tonight.
Closing the office in the Wal-Mart parking lot, however, does not stop the Federal Emergency Management Agency from taking applications from people affected by severe storms, flooding and tornadoes between May 4 and 8. FEMA will continue to take those applications until Aug. 4.
The counties affected in The Gazette’s readership area are Lyon and Osage.

Greensburg hospital
A presentation Monday will draw attention to the devastation of the hospital in Greensburg after the early May tornado destroyed the town. Tom Bell, chief executive officer of the Kansas Hospital Association, will present a slideshow at 10 a.m. Monday in the Frances Stout Auditorium in the ESU Newman Division of Nursing building east of Newman Regional Health.
Newman hospital’s auxiliary plans to have a booth at the Sept. 8 Great American Flea Market with proceeds to benefit the Greensburg hospital’s auxiliary to help rebuild the hospital.
