Pool will be closed
The Jones Aquatic Center will be closed all of Saturday and part of Sunday because of the annual Summer Swim Meet hosted by the Emporia Aquatic Club.
The pool will re-open for public swimming after the meet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 15.
There is no charge for spectators attending the meet.
GOP chairman to visit
Chris Kobach, Republican party chairman for Kansas, will be the speaker at a forum from noon until 1:30 on Saturday at the Emporia Public Library.
Kobach will present a comparative review of major political party platforms, and will answer questions after the presentation.
The event, sponsored by Society of Emporians Exploring Key issues, is open to the public.

Auditions on Friday
Eight cast members — two women and six men — are being sought for a benefit production of “Bad Habits,” by Terrence McNally. Auditions will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday in the social hall of the Emporia Recreation Center.
Proceeds from the performance will be donated to Corner House, according to Jacob Nelson, who is in charge of the fundraiser.

Back to school donations
The Salvation Army, 327 Constitution St., will take applications for back to school clothing and supplies for low income families in the Lyon County area from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. July 23, 24 and 25. There will be no make up days.
All applicants are required to provide a photo identification, proof of Lyon County residency (if not on ID); proof of ALL persons living in the home (SRS printout, medical cards, etc.); proof of ALL household income (including wages, cash assistance, social security, child support, etc.) OR food stamp approval statement from SRS.
