Albin family

Descendants of Isaac and Ruth Albin, (long ago residents of the Toledo area) came to Emporia from Nebraska, Missouri, Virginia, South Carolina and California for the biennial reunion activities on June 23 and 24. Dorothea Rohlck, who publishes the Albin newsletter, presented many interesting facts about the Clark family of Virginia. The reunion was well attended, as was a visit after lunch to the Cooper Horse Ranch near Saffordville to see some of the 2007 foals. The group enjoyed an ice cream and cookie break at the Saffordville United Methodist Church, after which a caravan of people proceeded to see homes built and land previously owned by Albin families. A stop was made at Hillside Cemetery where Isaac and Ruth Albin and more than 30 of their descendants are buried. Later, several gathered at the Best Western courtyard to share family pictures and stories.

Sunday morning, more than 40 people met at the Neosho Rapids Senior Center for a meal and visiting, after which there was a business meeting. A videotape was made by Dori Moore and Mike Miller of each family group present. Those present from the John “Bun” Albin family were John and Neva Parks of Council Grove and Linda Lindquist of Oceola, Neb.; from the William Albin family were Orville and Dorothea Mackenthun Rohlck of Scottsbluff, Neb.; fromthe Charles “Curley” Albin family were Rod and Pat Jones of Gladstone, Mo., Boyd and Carol Jones Covey of Holt, Mo., and Dave and Maureen Albin Hocker of Belton, Mo.; from the Fred Albin family were Allyn Sodowsky of Centreville, Va., Dave, Shauna and Cole Lorenzen of Santa Rosa, Calif., Sharon Young and Billy Thornley of Charleston, S.C., Rodney and Nora Albin McKell of Joplin, Mo., Dianne and Shayne Dennison and Justin Parks of Smithville, Mo., Brian, Tricia and Keira Davis of Wichita, Dori Wiggins Moore and Mike Miller of Leavenworth, Bob and Carol Albin Ford and Dennis Ford of Hutchinson, Daniel and Marylin Albin Hudson of Chanute, Ernie Albin of Lebo, Richard and June Albin Givens of Neosho Rapids, Sandy Radford and Michelle Givens of Strong City, Janie Albin McIlvain and Richard McCoy, Waunie Davis, Daniel and Teraridca Klingensmith and Terry Ford, all of Emporia; and from the Tom Albin family was Jeannine North Cooper of Saffordville.

The next Albin family reunion will be held in the same area on the fourth weekend in June 2009.
