Bid farewell to Father Tim

The Rev. Tim Haberkorn will be guest of honor at a farewell reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Olpe.

Hosts will be his parish churches, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hartford. After nine years of service, Haberkorn has been transferred to the St. Joseph - Sacred Heart parish in Topeka. The Rev. Anthony Williams of the Paxico-Alma parish will be the priest for the Olpe and Hartford churches.

The reception is open to the public.

Municipal band concert

The Emporia Municipal Band will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday in Fremont Park, Fourth Avenue and Union Street. This week’s theme is “Happy Birthday, U.S.A! Happy 150th, Emporia!.”

The program is:

• “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore.

• “American Civil War Fantasy” by Jerry Bilik.

• “Emporia,” galop by Karl L. King.

• “Appalachian Overture,” by James Barnes.

• “Armed Forces Salute,” by Bob Lowden.

• Hymn tune: “A Mighty Fortress.”

• Children’s march: “American Patrol,” by F. W. Meacham.

• Sing-along: “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” by George M. Cohan.

• “God Bless America,” by Irving Berlin, arranged by Erik Leidzen.

• World premiere of “Beacon on the Prairie,” by James Barnes, commissioned by the Emporia Municipal Band to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Emporia.

• “American the Beautiful,” arranged by Carmen Dragon.

• “Stars and Stripes Forever,” by John Philip Sousa.

• “Home on the Range,” by Dan Kelly, arranged by James Barnes.
