Emporia athletes posted strong showings over the weekend at the National Senior Olympics.
Ted Hollembeak and George Milton notched a 2-1 record in 65-and-over doubles tennis, defeating the team of Paul Fultz/Terry Geshke from Tennessee (6-4, 2-6, 11-9) and the team of Kaye Brown/Richard Cole of Delaware (6-2, 6-1).
The Emporia duo lost their final match, dropping a 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 decision to Frank Hagelshaw/Peter Smith of Florida.
Both Emporia athletes also finished with a 1-1 record in their respective age divisions.
In the 65-and-over age division, Hollembeak defeated Ron Hohman of Michigan (6-4, 6-2) before losing to Leonard Fechter of Pennsylvania (6-3, 6-4).
Milton, who competed in the 70-and-over singles division, took a victory Frank Ward of Oklahoma (7-5, 7-5) and later fell to David Shannon (7-5, 2-6, 10-8).
Bob Symmonds also competed in 55-and-over racquetball, but his results were not available at press time.
