Uniontown girls beat SCC in battle of league’s unbeatens

Tuesday, January 30, 2007

Uniontown jumped out to an early lead and held on from there, defeating Southern Coffey County, 52-44, in a matchup of two undefeated league teams.

“It boiled down to the simple fact that they shot the ball better than us tonight,” SCC coach Jeff True said.

Uniontown was led by the versatile Kylie Shepard, who scored at nearly every spot on the floor. She had five 2-pointers, three 3-pointers and made 6-of-7 free throws to finish with a game-high 25 points.

“Shepard,” True said, “was almost unstoppable.”

SCC still battled, outscoring Uniontown 37-32 after the first quarter.

The Lady Titans still were never able to make up the deficit, cutting the lead to seven on multiple occasions but never getting any closer.

“I was pleased with our girls’ intensity in all four quarters,” True said. “We didn’t back down defensively.”

Casie Combs led SCC with 13 points, while Hannah Brooks added nine.

The Lady Titans (11-3, 5-1) will face Crest on Friday.
