Community supper

The Rosean Club will be host to a community soup supper at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fremont Township Hall.

Community members are welcome and are asked to bring chili or vegetable soup, a dessert and table service. Beverages will be provided.

Reading Council will meet

The City of Reading will have a business meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the City Hall. The council will look at an application for cereal malt beverage retail, discuss the upkeep on the civic building, and review applications for city treasurer.

Seeking classmates

The Emporia High School Class of 1987 is trying to find classmates for its 20-year reunion, which will be held Aug. 3-5. For more information, see ehs.classof87@gmail.com.

Reception planned

Theda Wolford, who will celebrate her 80th birthday, will be the guest of honor at a reception on Feb. 4, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. at the new Hartford Community Building. Hosts will be her children, Michael Ann and Bob Russell, Clyde and Denise Wolford, Craig and Kara Wolford, Nelson Wolford, Dana Wolford and Emil Wolford. She requests no gifts. ADA Luncheon

There will be an Americans with Disabilities workshop from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with lunch included, Thursday in the Kanza Room of the ESU Memorial Union. The cost is $25. The workshop, led by Ray Petty, is designed for policy-makers and local government administrators, according to the news release. Topics include legal requirements for state and local governments, functions of ADA coordination, community resources available to assist an open discussion of barrier and opportunities that local governments currently face. Storm-spotter training

The National Weather Service in conjunction with the Lyon County Emergency Management Office will host storm-spotter training classes in February and March. The first class will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds, Anderson Building. The second class will be from 7 to 9 p.m. March 26 at the Knights of Columbus, 212 Iowa St., in Olpe.
