Sacred Heart School celebrates Catholic education this week
Monday, January 29, 2007
Catholic schools this week will be spreading “The Good News in Education” during Catholic Schools Week.
The week of activities will culminate on Sunday with an open house at Sacred Heart Catholic School for prospective students, their parents and the community. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parish hall, 106 Exchange St.
Students celebrated Kansas Day today, as well as the influence Catholic schools have had on preparing students to be productive citizens of the state, a news release from the school stated.
Leaders of the community will be thanked for their commitment to the school at a lunch Tuesday. A spelling bee will follow.
Wednesday’s celebration will honor vocations of the priesthood, religious life, marriage and single life that have developed as part of the education received at Catholic schools.
Grandparents from the community will be guests at lunch on Thursday after a 10 a.m. Mass. A “religion bowl” is planned after the luncheon.
On Friday, distinguished alumni will be honored. High school seniors who attended Sacred Heart will be at the school to share their memories with current students.
Catholic Schools Week is a joint project of the National Catholic Education Association and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Approximately 7,800 Catholic schools operate in the U.S.
The Emporia school serves preschool through sixth grade.
