After trailing at halftime, the Northern Heights boys finally were able to pick up the pace in the second half of a 55-36 victory over Osage City on Friday.
Osage City’s patience on offense paid off in the first half, as the Indians went into the break leading 22-21.
“They were very disciplined,” Heights coach Lanny Massey said, “and made us play solid defense.”
The Wildcats ran away with the game late, outscoring the Indians 34-14 in the final 16 minutes.
“We were finally able to get some ball pressure in the second half,” Heights coach Lanny Massey said. “We were able to get a lead and make them have to attack us.”
Rick Hobson led Heights with 18 points, which included a perfect 6-for-6 effort from the free-throw line. Cody Neidfeldt added 12, while J.W. Roeder and Jake Weakley both hit eight.
Eddie Oliver was the only Indian in double figures, scoring 12 points.

Council Grove boys 74,
Pomona 52
Using primarily a fast-break offense, the Council Grove boys raced to the 22-point victory over Pomona.
“We tried to up-tempo the game a little bit,” Council Grove coach Bruce Hula said. “We pressed and tried to run up and down with them.”
The strategy worked wonders in the second quarter, where Council Grove went on a 17-6 run to grab a 42-29 halftime advantage.
Though Pomona started to handle the pressure better in the second half, it still was outscored 32-23 by Council Grove in the final 16 minutes.
The Braves had four players in double digits, led by Matt Ross’ 20. Tanner Messer (13), Ethan Miller (13) and Blake Mayer (11) also hit the 10-point plateau.
Council Grove won despite amassing 28 team fouls. Pomona had only 20.

Matt Harmon led three Southern Coffey County players in double figures as the Titans rolled to the 20-point victory over Williamsburg.
SCC outscored Williamsburg in each quarter, pulling away with a 19-9 run in the fourth.
Harmon finished with 17 points on seven made field goals, which included a 3-pointer. Dane Birk added 12, while John Kraft contributed 10.
Lucas Humerickhouse paced Williamsburg, scoring 16 points.
