The Emporia High wrestling team had an impressive first day at the Garden City Invitational on Friday, putting itself in fourth place out of 22 teams.
“We’re wrestling well and competing well,” EHS coach Greg Buckbee said. “Hopefully, if we keep wrestling like this, we can move up a little bit more.”
EHS garnered 77 points, trailing only Pondersosa, Colo. (150 points), Goddard (126) and Roosevelt, Colo. (77.5).
The Spartans had two wrestlers advance to today’s finals: Mark Kolmer at 189 pounds and Josh Rodriguez at 285.
All other wrestlers will be competing on the consolation side of the bracket.
