EMPORIA HIGH SCHOOL teacher Katie Bacon was one of six candidates who was nominated for a national teaching award. Bacon has been a physical education teacher and coach since 1984.

F Sunflower Gymnastics, which will be the host for Emporia’s first trampoline and tumbling meet. The event will be at William Lindsay White Auditorium and bring 250 people to town.
F Tom Andrews, who was selected as Emporia’s new fire marshal. Andrews has been a firefighter with the fire department since 1985.
F Elaine Henry and Kelley Hunt, who won Governor’s Arts Awards. Henry is a ceramicist and chair of the art department at ESU and Hunt is a singer-song writer.
F Jacquelyne Renae Leffler, who was one five finalists in a statewide essay contest sponsored by the National and Kansas Federation of Republican Women. She will be honored today at a meeting in Topeka.
