Finalists for the job of Emporia’s city manager should be arriving in town around the week of Feb. 12, Mayor Jim Kessler said today.
Those finalists have not yet been chosen from the nine applicants remaining. City commissioners discussed those applicants today in a closed-door teleconference with consultant Chuck Anderson.
Of the nine, five have Kansas connections and two have either a past or present connection with Emporia. No names have been released.
Once a date has been set and the candidates have been announced, the whole group of finalists will be brought to Emporia for a two-day visit. Face-to-face interviews with the commission will take place at that time.
All nine have been interviewed by Anderson, Kessler said, but background checks have not been complete. All candidates have said that if chosen, they could take the job within 30 to 60 days.
Kessler said the city should still be on track to name a manager before the end of February.
