Ballot set for spring election season

The spring ballot will be a much more crowded place than anyone expected.

A rush of filings on Monday and Tuesday pushed the number of Emporia school board candidates to eight. Another eight people are set to run for the Emporia City Commission. And four of the county school board races will be competitive ones, including one in Southern Lyon County that will require a primary election.

The Lyon County election races and their participants will be as follows:

Emporia school board

-- Michael Helbert

-- Arden “Ardie” Lauxman

-- Leslie Rathke-Seeley

-- Grant Riles (incumbent)

-- Angie Schreiber

-- Glen Strickland

-- Ty Wheeler

-- Brent Windsor

Four at-large seats are up for election.

North Lyon County school board

Position 1

-- Michael Hanks

-- Donna Taylor

Position 2

-- Sarah Meenen

Position 3

-- Bill McClellan

Position 7

-- Greg Larson

-- Wayne Symmonds

Southern Lyon County school board

Position 1

-- Shelly Jenkins (incumbent)
