LET’S GET THIS straight.
A Tyson employee has died of tuberculosis.
The Lyon County Health Department is asking anyone who had been in close contact with the man to come in to be tested for exposure to tuberculosis.
But the health department, citing rules of medical privacy, says it is not allowed to release the man’s name.
If the name is kept secret, how are people supposed to know whether they have been exposed to tuberculosis?
On one hand, there is an issue of privacy for a dead man; on the other, an issue of safety for the living.
Which should take precedence?
