Youngsters from the Madison United Methodist Church recently held a meat drive to benefit the local food pantry. The drive, named “Meat Jesus,” collected more than 60 pounds of meat within an hour within the city of Madison.
Youths who participated were: Kole Schankie, Kale Schankie, Ryan Thomsen, Rylan Barnard, Austin Harris, Abby Kile, Shelby Buster, Morgan Stout, Andrew Haag and Collin Kile.
Kenny Walburn of Emporia announced that he has purchased a building and will renovate it before opening his new business, the Madison Athletic Club.
The club will have free weights, machines and tanning beds and will be managed by Trish McKenzie, a student at Emporia State University.
Walburn expects the club will be open in February.
Mayor Paul Dean appointed Kristen Hutchinson as municipal judge for the City of Madison. The action was taken during the Monday evening meeting of the Madison City Council.
Morris County
Amanda Collier of Council Grove has been chosen for membership in the Golden Key international honor society at Kansas State University. Collier is a senior student studying sociology.
Membership in Golden Key is by invitation only.
