Free Flu shots tomorrow

Monday, January 15, 2007

Newman hospital and the community health center have flu vaccine to give away.

“Because of the late arrival of the flu vaccine, we still have about 450 doses left,” said Nancy LeClear, director of marketing and education at Newman. “Having this much vaccine left is a very unusual circumstance and we want to make sure to put it to good use. Therefore, as a public service, we’re happy to provide the remaining vaccine free to the community.”

The hospital will offer flu shots from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the north main lobby of Newman Regional Health, 1201 W. 12th Ave. The Flint Hills Community Health Center will offer a free vaccine from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the health center, 420 W. 15th Ave.

Newman’s clinic on Tuesday is for people 9 years old and older. The Flint Hills Community Health Center has approximately 150 doses of vaccine remaining and provides immunizations to individuals of all ages, including children under the age of 9.

“The flu season usually peaks the end of January or early February,” said Renee Hively, public health manager of the Flint Hills Community Health Center. “People can still get immunized right now and be protected by the time we are seeing the largest number of influenza cases. But they need to get it as soon as possible.”
