Monday closings
Monday is Martin Luther King Day, and a number of closings are planned, including the Lyon County Health Department and Flint Hills Community Health Center and Emporia’s financial institutions and federal, state and county government offices. The district court will also be closed.
City offices will be open and there will be residential and commercial trash collection. The transfer station and recycling center will be open.
Emporia State University will be open and is sponsoring events to honor King. The Emporia public schools will not hold classes, but Monday will be an in-service day for teachers.

Emporian recovering
Emporian Connie Roblez is recuperating at the Shawnee home of her daughter and son-in-law Amy and Rob Pennington after an emergency heart procedure Dec. 24 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She plans to return home next week, her family said.
