A child was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Hospital after the bicycle he was riding collided with a Buick coming out of the alley beside Broadview Towers, 110 West Sixth Ave.
The boy apparently was riding the bicycle west on the sidewalk in front of the building and entered the alleyway as the car was preparing to turn onto Sixth Avenue.
Emergency workers with the Lyon County-Emporia ambulance service maneuvered the boy onto a spinal board before placing him on a wheeled stretcher and loading him into the ambulance.
Details of the accident, including the name of the victim and the extent of injuries, were not immediately available.
The driver of the car was not injured.
A large convex mirror was set up adjacent to the alley about five years ago to help drivers spot pedestrians, bicycle riders and other drivers who are difficult to see because of the building and parked cars along the street.

Im feel sorry for the boy involved in the accident but I have never noticed the mirrors at that alley exit for all the years I have gone through there. I will be much more aware of them now.

I am sorry for the young man and his family. I am sure they are going to have some hard times coming up with accident. I hope he has a speedy recovery. And I think that our drivers in
Emporia need to be more cautious when they are driving. I know that area is hard but those mirrors do work.
