Family fun tonight
A Family Fun Night will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the VFW Hall at 302 S. Commercial St., sponsored by the Bluestem Swingers Square Dance Club. For more information, call 343-6480.
Heritage interviewers
The Flint Hills Heritage Task Force will conduct a workshop on Jan. 17, to train potential interviewers for the Flint Hills Heritage Stories oral history project. The workshop will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in the Roe Cross Conference Room in Cremer Hall at Emporia State University.
The task force will identify people who will be interviewed for the project. Their subjects will include ranching, pioneer life, Indian and other ethnic history, ecology and geology, the impact of railroads and energy exploration and extraction, and the affect of the Santa Fe Trail and other trails.

Girl Scout cookies
Girl Scout cookie sales began Friday in Emporia and will continue through Jan. 22. Orders will be delivered Feb. 19 through March 7.
This year’s theme is “Step It Up,” with eight kinds of cookies offered: Samoas, Thin Mints, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Little Brownie (made with sugar-free real chocolate chips), Café and All Abouts.
According to a news release, no preservatives are used and all have 100 percent vegetable shortening, plus “zero trans fat per serving.” Those who do not place an order with a Girl Scout may call 342-4532 to order.
