Emporia will lose yet another business on Jan. 12 — Snapshot Photo, 2810 W. U.S. Highway 50.
Snapshot Photo opened Feb. 1, 2004. It is closing because of the bankruptcy of the AGFA Corp, which won’t allow the business to order AGFA paper, chemicals or parts for their photo machine. Carolyn Rhoads, owner of Snapshot Photo, said that AGFA Corp. has shut its plant down.
“There have been days when I’ve used five different flavors (of chemicals),” Rhoads said. “That’s not good for your chemical set-up when everything is wrong.”
Rhoads said she and her husband, Steve, considered purchasing new equipment and starting over, but they decided against it.
“I just feel so hurt that it even happened to start out with,” she said. “We’ve lost so much money over this that we couldn’t start again.”
Rhoads said the community has been really supportive of the business.
“I’m dreading going through the next couple of weeks because I know it’s going to crush a lot of people,” she said.
Rhoads said she wanted to thank her customers.
“I’ve met a lot of people and it’s been a good time,” she said. “I know everybody. You get to know their kids and grandkids.”
Rhoads said they own the building until Jan. 20. It has been sold to a local individual.
