The Emporia State indoor track and field team will send four athletes to the NCAA Division II Championships in Boston, Mass., next week.
Jonel Rossbach, Eric Wellman, Trent Olivier and Dustin Andrews will compete against the best Division II competition in the country on March 9-10.
Rossbach, who finished as an All-American in cross country last fall, will compete in the mile run for ESU. Her time of 4:53.76 is ranked second in the national field and second in ESU history.
Eric Wellman also will be competing in the mile for the Hornets. His time of 4:11.10 is ranked 11th in the country.
Both Wellman and Rossbach will be making their second consecutive appearance at the national meet.
Olivier enters with the 13th-best mark in the shot put. His throw of 54 feet, 8.75 inches at the Mule Relays was the fourth-best throw in ESU history.
Andrews comes in with the eighth-best mark in the high jump. His leap of 6 feet, 10.25 inches at the MIAA Championships was the fourth-longest in school history.
The 6-foot-3 Andrews will have a busy weekend if the ESU men’s basketball team earns a regional bid. Andrews, who plays guard for the Hornets, will compete at 4 p.m. (EST) March 9 for the track team and will immediately be flown to the ESU basketball team’s regional site March 10 if the team makes it that far.
The track and field Championships will take place at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
