Headed to Iraq

Air Force Staff Sgt. Jon W. Bailey, the son of Kevin W. Bailey of Lebo and Cindy Hill of Waverly, has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom assigned as a member of 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing headquartered in Balad Air Base, north of Baghdad. There are five contingency units attached to the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing. Bailey is assigned to the 732nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, Detachment 6.

Bailey is a 1998 graduate of Waverly High School.

The mission of the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing is to provide combat air support and power to U.S. fighting forces in Iraq, including airlift, airdrop, and logistics operations of troops, cargo, equipment and supplies, and medical transport and evacuation operations. The wing has the primary goal of supporting the national objective of assisting Iraq in its transition to democracy.

Bailey, a security forces craftsman, is normally assigned to the 96th Security Forces Squadron, Eglin Air Force Base, Valparaiso, Fla. He has served in the military for eight years.

Army training

Army National Guard Pvt. Sunshine A. Kilgore has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Kilgore studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Kilgore is the daughter of Mitch Kilgore Sr. of Hamilton and Karen Lutze of Tecopa, Calif.

Guard training

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Alison E. Hastings has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

A 2006 graduate of Osage City High School, Hastings is the daughter of Gina Hastings of Osage City and Jeff Hastings of Strasburg, Colo.
