Burlington girls open Sub-State with big win

The No. 2-seeded Burlington girls rolled in their opening game of Sub-State, taking a 66-31 runaway victory over Central Heights at Burlington.
The Ladycats dominated the earlygoing, starting the game on a 24-2 first-quarter run.
During that time span, Burlington allowed just three Central Heights shots, and none of those went in. Heights’ only first-quarter points came on a pair of free throws.
“I thought we came out really ready to play,” Burlington coach Doug Stewart said.
Burlington built a 60-18 lead before easing back in the fourth quarter.
Becca Holman led the Ladycats, scoring 20 points, with 12 of those coming in the first quarter.
Allyx Barnhart added 13 points to go along with six steals.
Burlington will play the winner of the Erie-Wellsville matchup on Thursday at Central Heights.

The Northern Heights girls ended their season Monday with a 68-32 loss to Riley County.
“I thought that our girls played hard tonight,” Heights coach Tim Riemann said. “We played a very good team in Riley County, and we did not quit.”
Heights trailed 13-6 after the first quarter before Riley County found its stride.
The Lady Falcons used a 21-10 run in the second quarter to take a 34-16 lead into the break.
Sarah Boline paced Heights with 10 points, while Amy Lee contributed five.
“I am proud of our girls’ effort this season,” Riemann said, “and have seen a lot of progess throughout the year.”

Central Burden 46
The Flinthills boys outscored Central Burden in every quarter of a 65-46 victory over Central Burden Monday night.
The Mustangs started out strong, opening the game with a 17-9 first-quarter run.
Flinthills dominated the final two quarters as well, outscoring Central Burden 32-22 in the second half.
Nate Nelson and Grant Vogt led four Mustangs in double figures, as both posted 13 points. Jeremy Jackson and Kiel Reimann added 12 points apiece, with Reimann also contributing 14 rebounds and four steals.
Colziah notched a game-high 19 points for Central Burden.

Osage City girls 53, Eureka 25
The Osage City girls pitched a shutout in the first quarter on their way to a 53-25 blowout over Eureka Monday night.
Led by five points from Kelsey Sturdy, the Lady Indians went on a 15-0 run in the opening quarter to take control. They extended that advantage to 28-5 at halftime.
Osage City had three players in double figures, led by Katie Buenger’s 14 points. Chelsea Reed added 11, while Sturdy contributed 10.
