Emergency responders needed
The Kansas Division of Emergency Management is looking for qualified individuals available to respond to emergencies as part of several Incident Management Teams being formed across the state. The teams will be made up of about 20 people who have a variety of skills necessary for emergency response. Those interested may review qualifications and apply at www.ksready.gov by Wednesday. Interviews will be in March with teams in place by October 2007.
Mall Madness Saturday
All girls in seventh through 12th grade are invited to Mall Madness Saturday and Sunday, sponsored by the Girl Scout Council of the Flint Hills. The cost is $8 for Girl Scouts and $11 for non-Girl Scouts; mothers and leaders stay for free. Girls will spend the night inside the Flinthills Mall shopping, dancing and listening to music from DJ Trey, watching movies and playing games. Veteran Services representative in area
Ken Morris, Veteran Services Representative for the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs is scheduled to meet from 1 to 3:30 p.m. March 6 at the Health Department in Marion; 1 to 3:30 p.m. March 8 at the Courthouse in Burlington; 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 13 in Cottonwood Falls and 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Courthouse in Council Grove; 1 to 3:30 p.m. March 20 at the Health Department in Marion; 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 21 at the Bolz Insurance Agency in Lyndon; 1 to 3:30 p.m. March 21 at the American Legion in Osage City. He will not be available for meetings in Eureka during the month of March because of prior commitments. To better serve all veterans, widows and dependents, it is helpful to call ahead at the Emporia field office, 342-3347, to be sure all files and information are ready.
Weekly siren tests to resume
The Emporia Police Department will begin regular weekly testing of the severe weather sirens at 10 a.m. March 7 through October, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the sirens will not be tested.
Elk Falls School reunion
Plans are being made for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Elk Falls School Reunion, which will be a covered dish dinner held at noon May 27 in the Elk Falls gymnasium.
