Sweepstakes finalist
An Emporian is one of 250 finalists in the Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes.
Charles Clements has been notified that he will receive at least $1,000, if he does not receive the PCH check for $10,000,000.
PCH representatives will surprise the grand-prize winner with its traditional oversized check on Wednesday.
Clements could not be reached for comment.
Fatal accident
A 15-year-old girl from rural Osage City died Saturday after an accident on 109th Street, between Hoch and Valencia roads in Osage County.
According to information from Sheriff Laurie Dunn, the driver of the vehicle, Devin Brungardt, 15, was life-flighted from the scene of the accident and died later at a Topeka hospital.
Other occupants of the vehicle — Ryan D. Wayman, 14, of rural Auburn, Jacob Brady, 16, of rural Topeka, and Jessica Potter, 14, of Harveyville — were taken to Topeka hospitals.
The accident, which happened about 5:38 p.m., remains under investigation, Dunn said.
