UPDATE: All 4 Emporia High semifinalist wrestlers fall to consolation bracket
10 Spartans still vying for third-place finishes.

WICHITA -- All four Emporia High wrestlers that advanced to the semifinal round of the Class 5A State tournament on Friday lost, falling to the consolation bracket.
• Justin Rose (112 pounds) lost a 9-7 decision to Tyler Williamson of Mill Valley.
• Bryce Shaver (160 pounds) lost a 16-10 decision to Jared Brown of Shawnee Heights.
• James Sparks (215 pounds) was pinned by Joe Bach (4:43)
• Josh Rodriguez (285 pounds) lost a 3-2 decision to Chris Holly of Shawnee Heights.
In the first round of the consolation bracket, Logan Gaskill (140 pounds) defeated Sammy Sanders by a 9-1 major decision, while Taylor Lee (145 pounds) was pinned by Barrett Brantingham (:17)
Ten EHS wrestlers are still in the tournament -- Jared Dakin, Rose, Sal Tovar, Tavo Dikin, Zeb Peak, Gaskill, Shaver, Mark Kolmer, Sparks and Rodriguez -- with all 10 in the consolation bracket to decide third place.
Tournament resumes at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
In quarterfinal action:
• Justin Rose (112 pounds) pinned Austin Lorson of Topeka West (5:22).
• Bryce Shaver (160 pounds) defeated Slade Giesen by a 7-3 decision.
• James Sparks (215 pounds) defeated Matt Nelson of Mill Valley by a 16-4 major decision.
• Josh Rodriguez (285 pounds) defeated Nick Langford of Harmon by a 2-1 decision.
Emporia had five wrestlers lose in the quarterfinal matches, as Jared Dakin (103 pounds), Sal Tovar (119 pounds), Tavo Dikin (125 pounds), Zeb Peak (135 pounds) and Mark Kolmer (189 pounds) all fell to the consolation bracket.
In first-round action:
• Jared Dakin (103 pounds) defeated Alberto Martinez of Shawnee Heights by a technical fall, 15-0;
• Justin Rose (112 pounds) defeated Bart Hageman of McPherson by major decision, 11-0;
• Sal Tovar (119 pounds) defeated Marcos Magallanes of Liberal by technical fall, 17-0;
• Tavo Dikin (125 pounds) defeated Austin Peterson of Liberal by a 9-3 decision;
• Zeb Peak (135 pounds) pinned Joshua Gueary of Topeka West (:46);
• Bryce Shaver (160 pounds) defeated William Bowles of Harmon by a 9-7 decision;
• Mark Kolmer (189 pounds) defeated Chris Burns of Highland Park by a 9-4 decision;
• James Sparks (215 pounds) pinned Josh Cohen of Hutchinson (5:55); and
• Josh Rodriguez (285 pounds) pinned Cory Ready of Highland Park (1:57).
Two other Spartans fell in the first round, with Logan Gaskill (140 pounds) falling to Erick Cordero of Turner by pin (5:37), while Taylor Lee (145 pounds) was pinned by Mark Millstead of St. Thomas Aquinas (:44).
